When it comes to local search visibility there is no doubt that Google is god, but the internet is a big place. Creating exposure on other sites (think Yellow Pages, Yelp, Superpages and Foursquare) with citations won’t just help you expand to reach new audiences around the web, but also help you rank higher in Google! The big G likes to know that the sites they rank high in local search results have big audiences and lots of exposure all around the web so it is in your best benefit to do just that, be everywhere with citations.
