Well, a lot actually. Google and other popular search engines are using social media data to help build ranking signals for their search algorithms. It’s no longer enough to just optimize a few thing on the backend of your webpages, Google wants to see that the content on your site is popular and well-liked around the internet. Social media provides instant feedback to Google letting them know if people really want to see your content or not.
